Description

Carex acutiformis is a native perennial marsh plant of the North and Central Europe. It grows in swamps and along the banks of rivers often intercropped with Juncus subnodulosus and Cirsium palustre. It is formed by an erect stem, with triangular leaf, wrapped at the base by brown fibers. It has wide linear leaves from 3 to 9 mm long and up to 50 cm. In late spring it produces dark brown ears. Requires a constantly moist soil or covered by some centimeters of water, should be placed on the edges of ponds or along streams in slightly acid or neutral soil in a sunny position, reaches a height of 130 cm.
